Ahmedabad, India: Qatar’s men’s national volleyball team secured its first victory at the 2026 Asian Men’s Volleyball Cup, defeating Thailand in straight sets on Sunday at the tournament being held in Ahmedabad through June 29.
The Qatari side delivered an impressive performance, asserting its dominance from the opening stages of the match and maintaining control throughout to sweep all three sets and claim a convincing victory.
The win marked a strong response from Qatar following its opening-round defeat to Oman, which prevailed in a closely contested five-set encounter.
By securing the three-set victory, Qatar significantly improved its prospects of advancing to the knockout stage and strengthened its position in the race for qualification from the group phase.
The national team will continue its first-round campaign on Monday against Indonesia before taking on Bahrain on June 25.
Qatar will then conclude its group-stage schedule with a challenging fixture against South Korea on June 26, as it aims to secure a place in the next round of the continental competition.
The victory provides a timely confidence boost for the Qatari squad as it seeks to build momentum and maintain its challenge for a deep run in one of Asia’s premier volleyball tournaments.
