Cairo, Egypt: The 8th Conference of the Arab Parliament and Speakers of Arab Councils and Parliaments concluded in Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday, commending the State of Qatar’s diplomatic efforts in promoting regional stability and reaffirming a unified Arab parliamentary position on key regional issues.

In its final statement, the conference praised the mediation efforts of the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at resolving outstanding issues between the two countries. The statement also acknowledged the broader role of Arab states in supporting these diplomatic efforts.

Participants stressed the importance of maintaining a unified Arab parliamentary stance to address the challenges facing the Arab world and safeguard the security and stability of Arab countries against external threats.

The conference adopted four parliamentary resolutions supporting the Palestinian cause, rejecting attempts to undermine it, condemning attacks on several Arab countries, and opposing interference in their internal affairs. It also approved an Arab parliamentary vision to strengthen Arab digital sovereignty and enhance the protection of national data and privacy amid accelerating digital transformation.

The one-day gathering discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, the need for greater Arab coordination on regional security, and strategies for advancing digital sovereignty across the Arab world. Parliamentarians exchanged views on these issues and explored ways to address the challenges they present.

The Shura Council participated in the conference with a delegation led by Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.
