Dhaka: Qatar Charity (QC) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen humanitarian and development efforts in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on supporting Rohingya refugees and vulnerable host communities.

The agreement was signed in Dhaka by Qatar Charity Bangladesh Country Director Zakarya Al Motair and IRC Bangladesh Country Director Hasina Rahman, reaffirming the two organizations’ shared commitment to improving the lives of communities affected by displacement, poverty, and complex humanitarian challenges.

In a statement issued Sunday, Qatar Charity said the MoU establishes a collaborative framework to enhance humanitarian and development interventions, while opening new avenues for cooperation in program implementation, resource mobilization, and the development of innovative initiatives to address urgent and evolving needs on the ground.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Hasina Rahman underscored the importance of partnerships in responding to growing humanitarian needs.

“This partnership will enable us to work more closely in addressing humanitarian needs and exploring opportunities for greater resource mobilization,”

According to Qatar Charity, the MoU represents more than a formal agreement, reflecting a shared vision built on trust, partnership, and a common humanitarian mission. Through the alliance, both organizations aim to improve service delivery, maximize collective impact, and strengthen their capacity to respond effectively to ongoing humanitarian challenges.

The partnership is also expected to facilitate the development of strategic project proposals and attract additional funding to expand life-saving assistance and resilience-building programs for vulnerable communities.

The agreement comes as Bangladesh continues to host one of the world’s largest refugee populations while facing mounting humanitarian and climate-related challenges. Both organizations said the partnership highlights the importance of coordinated international action to promote dignity, strengthen resilience, and improve the lives of displaced and vulnerable communities.
