Berlin: The State of Qatar participated today in the Third International Sudan Conference, held in the German capital Berlin.
The State of Qatar was represented at the conference by HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.
His Excellency expressed his gratitude to the German Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs and all partners for hosting and organizing the conference focused on the Sudanese issue.
He said that the State of Qatar’s position on Sudan has remained consistent and unchanged, reaffirming the country’s firm support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Sudan, and calling on the international community to intensify efforts to reach a de-escalation phase, meet urgent humanitarian needs, and protect innocent civilians.
His Excellency added that, under the current circumstances, the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan has reached levels not seen in recent years. He noted that hundreds of thousands have been killed, millions displaced, and infrastructure has suffered widespread destruction, while two-thirds of the country face the threat of famine. He stressed that it is now more than ever the responsibility of all to provide assistance and alleviate the severity of the crisis facing the Sudanese people.
His Excellency affirmed that providing humanitarian support and ensuring the dignity of men, women, and children, for them to live in safety and security, was a core pillar of Qatari foreign policy, in line with its commitment to international peace and security, noting that the State of Qatar has previously pledged more than $75 million in aid.
His Excellency pointed out that despite the critical importance of humanitarian assistance, it alone was insufficient to achieve lasting peace and security for the Sudanese people, emphasizing the need for a political settlement to the conflict. In this context, he renewed the State of Qatar’s call to expand international support for efforts to reach a political solution that reflects the will of the Sudanese people.
The Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the State of Qatar has always believed that dialogue and diplomacy were the most effective tools for resolving conflicts. In the case of Sudan, he said that reaching a meaningful political solution required placing Sudanese voices at the forefront of the process and involving all relevant parties and Sudanese civil society, while ensuring the preservation of the country’s unity, national institutions, and territorial integrity.
